Dissipative effects on quantum sticking.

چکیده
Using variational mean-field theory, many-body dissipative effects on the threshold law for quantum sticking and reflection of neutral and charged particles are examined. For the case of an Ohmic bosonic bath, we study the effects of the infrared divergence on the probability of sticking and obtain a nonperturbative expression for the sticking rate. We find that for weak dissipative coupling α, the low-energy threshold laws for quantum sticking are modified by an infrared singularity in the bath. The sticking probability for a neutral particle with incident energy E→0 behaves asymptotically as s~E((1+α)/2(1-α)); for a charged particle, we obtain s~E(α/2(1-α)). Thus, "quantum mirrors"-surfaces that become perfectly reflective to particles with incident energies asymptotically approaching zero-can also exist for charged particles. We provide a numerical example of the effects for electrons sticking to porous silicon via the emission of a Rayleigh phonon.

Many-body effects and resonances in universal quantum sticking of cold atoms to surfaces
The role of shape resonances and many-body effects on universal quantum sticking of ultracold atoms onto solid surfaces is examined analytically and computationally using an exactly solvable representation of the Dyson equation. We derive the self-energy renormalization of the transition amplitude between an ultracold scattering atom and the bound states on the surface in order to elucidate the...

We obtain quantum input– output relations for anisotropic multilayer metamaterials. As an application of our approach, we investigate the dissipative and anisotropic effects of an anisotropic magnetodielectric slab on the quantum properties of incide...
متن کاملFinite temperature correlation function of two dissipative massive scalar fields: Thermofield approach
The present paper aims at investigating the manner of two dissipative massive scalar fields. Two massive scalar fields that interact with a reservoir were considered and a reservoir was modeled by continuum Klein-Gordon fields. The Lagrangian of the total system was canonically quantized and the dynamics of the system was determined using the Euler-Lagrange equation. Then, the explicit form of the...
متن کاملGeometric phase of a qubit interacting with a squeezed-thermal bath
We study the geometric phase of an open two-level quantum system under the influence of a squeezed, thermal environment for both non-dissipative as well as dissipative system-environment interactions. In the non-dissipative case, squeezing is found to have a similar influence as temperature, of suppressing geometric phase, while in the dissipative case, squeezing tends to counteract the suppres...
متن کاملDissipative effects in Multilevel Systems
Dissipation is sometimes regarded as an inevitable and regrettable presence in the real evolution of a quantum system. However, the effects may not always be malign, although often non-intuitive and may even be beneficial. In this note we we display some of these effects for N-level systems, where N = 2, 3, 4. We start with an elementary introduction to dissipative effects on the Bloch Sphere, ...
